Well done everyone at Silverstone !!

A fantastic Classic Racing Cars race with a couple of 1000cc F3's providing a shock for more than a few F2 cars!

The grid was a shock probably for some with David Methley bringing out the ex-James Wigmore Merlyn MK14A for the first time and putting it in third spot behind Simon Hadfield's Lotus 48 and Geoff Farmer's BT18. Also well up the starting grid was newcomer to CRC from the Guards Trophy, Stuart Tizzard and fellow migrant Jim Chapman who was out for the first time in another ex-James Wigmore car, the Lotus 59.

The race provided excitement from the start as Methley was out-powered by several of the F2 cars on the rolling start.  Once the front settled down with Simon Hadfield pulling out a lead increasing every lap and Ian Gray trying to catch him, a major battle began between Methley, Ross (a Lotus 59 running in class G) and Kendle (BT21B) for third place.

This battle continued the whole race with Methley obviously quicker in the twisty bits but the power of the larger engined cars proving too much on the long straight - but only just! The final result of David Methley 5th was a valiant effort and could easily have been 3rd.  Brands SuperPrix will be interesting!!

Well done to David and to Jim, both driving their F3 cars for the first time and doing incredibly well. David Methley first in class, Stuart Tizzard second and Jim Chapman third on his first screamer drive.

Below are photographs of the 1000cc cars taking part in the race, sadly an engine problem meant the succesful Monaco Historique driver Paul McMorron was absent from the starting line-up.
